Friday, 23rd October - Skywatch #5

It's been a long time between Skywatches, but I'm happy to be posting this as my first one from Chiang Mai, Thailand. I just like the inky sky against the stadium-style lighting of this soccer field, which wears really a much more pedestrian look by day. Thanks to the game schedule, the team was also very happy to be training at dusk today, instead of the blazing heat of mid-afternoon.

Sometimes, you can see planes skirting the tops of the trees (or so it seems), as they land at Chiang Mai airport. None would oblige me this evening, however, and I had to get on with it.

I guess it is because I have been an inner-west chickie for most of my life that there are some parts of Sydney that just don't look or feel like Sydney to me. This is one of them... the "town centre" at Rouse Hill. I thought this shot captured the sense of disorientation I feel when I find myself in them thar parts.

[Some other places that don't feel like Sydney to me include: the McMansions of Kellyville and Bella Vista (which bears a scary resemblance to Seahaven of The Truman Show fame), as well as parts of Newington, the refurbished half of Silverwater and Homebush Bay).]

Skywatch Friday #3
On the approach to our famous Harbour Bridge, southbound. I kind of liked the idea of just using it as an incidental.

Skywatch Friday #2
Why does it always seem to rain on a Friday?

Never mind:
1) it gets the rain out of the way for the weekend
2) it splashed up a nice rainbow for me as I arrived at work this morning.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the way this turned out. I had just stepped out of the car to get all my paraphenalia from the back seat, when I turned and saw this beautiful rainbow arching across the oval. Juggling my umbrella, handbag & favourite Montague/Capulet bag packed with marking, I'm amazed this turned out as well as it did.

It's a tradition: it wouldn't be Gelato Day without rainy skies. It's a package deal, it seems.

I don't know what it is, but birds sitting on telephone wires always catch my eye. They remind me of music notes on a staff.

I recently discovered a site called Skywatch Friday and decided I might give it a go. I do love my skyscapes, even though I've never consciously coordinated my Fridays to match. Click here for more skies around the world.
