5th January, 2012

Our whirlwind tour with Andrea and Yian included this moment of serenity above Wat Doi Suthep. (Other moments included a visit to the fish spa, but that's another story!)

Oh, what a glorious skyscape.

Tuesday, 18th January, 2011

The full moon was just so gorgeous tonight. This was snapped quickly at a red light.

And... we're off! It's goodbye Sydney, hello Chiang Mai.

Tuesday, 20th July, 2010

I can't remember the last time I went up Sydney Tower, formerly AMP tower, formerly Centrepoint Tower (and the name I still know it by) - but I suspect it mightn't have been in this millennium. Today, though, it was absolutely gorgeous, and we could see out west all the way to the Blue Mountains of the Great Dividing Range (I love the literalism of Aussie names.) In the foreground lies Darling Harbour, and, if you look closely enough, the familiar clothes-pin hinges of the Anzac Bridge further back from that.

Anyway, the best thing about the Sydney Tower observation deck is that it's round - hence, you can get the most out of your visit by just going around and around as I did - just a few more windows, just a few more windows... until you've spent the better part of your morning up there. I'd also recommend getting some coffee and cake on the deck below, where you can keep soaking up the view with a nice cuppa.

This is My World Tuesday.

On the day that Julia Gillard announced the date of the next federal election, it seemed right to visit Canberra and check on our pollies. There was a bunch of journalists camped out on the front lawn, but otherwise, all was quiet on this utterly gorgeous day. (Yes, I am guilty of over-using the word 'gorgeous' lately, but if you look at the sky, you'll have to agree that this was entirely justified.)

Now all I have to do is work out how to vote on 21st August when I'll be back in Chiang Mai.

It's snowing! ...Okay, not really. I'll confess - just white pebbles and winter trees.

This is the backyard to the house we rented in Bowral, Picket Lane - an absolutely gorgeous little cottage, which I couldn't recommend more highly. How toasty it was to walk in out of the 6 degree Bowral night and snuggle up with apple crumble and a board game!

A moment of quiet reflection at the Bay Run (well, I call it the Bay Walk when I'm feeling contemplative) this morning to show off the beauties of our waters and refresh my weary traveller.

A lovely skyscape just outside the Newington Armory Cafe, a lovely little place tucked away by the water that I'm not sure I'll ever be able to find again.

This cloud was monumental. I'd never seen anything like it. It reminded me of an angel's wing.

The sky, the moon, and the World Club needle. Another day, another soccer field.

Thursday, 23rd July, 2009

I love the juxtaposition of this one. And I love rainbows :)

Thursday, 16th July, 2009

Okay, this is a bit surreal, but you know what? I like it :)

Thursday, 9th July, 2009

Here's another one to add to my rainbow collection!

Sunday, 28th June, 2009

I'm waaaay behind on these posts, because I'm snowed under getting ready for Thailand, but here's a photo I couldn't resist posting. The light was so bizarre yesterday, the rainbow so vivid and the difference on either side of it so marked, that it was truly astonishing.

Bunnings isn't a perfect counterpoint for it, but hey, it is what it is!

Friday, 12th June, 2009 - Skywatch #4

I guess it is because I have been an inner-west chickie for most of my life that there are some parts of Sydney that just don't look or feel like Sydney to me. This is one of them... the "town centre" at Rouse Hill. I thought this shot captured the sense of disorientation I feel when I find myself in them thar parts.

[Some other places that don't feel like Sydney to me include: the McMansions of Kellyville and Bella Vista (which bears a scary resemblance to Seahaven of The Truman Show fame), as well as parts of Newington, the refurbished half of Silverwater and Homebush Bay).]

I don't know what it is, but to me there's something quintessentially Australian about this landscape. I like how the little trees look like animals... well, they do to me, anyway :)

Sunday, 7th June, 2009

Oh, but I do love a full moon.

Saturday, 6th June, 2009

If you look carefully into the centre of the cloud, you can see a rainbow. I'm so pleased that I could catch this. Does anyone know how this works?

Friday, 29th May, 2009

I don't do greyness very well, I'm afraid. This is the view from outside the staffroom window at the moment and it looks pretty bleak.
