A poem should be equal to:
Not true
For all the history of grief
An empty doorway and a maple leaf
For love
The leaning grasses and two lights above the sea...
This is my pictorial commentary on Archibald McLeish's gorgeous gorgeous poem.

It's been a long week... and it's not even Friday! When I need to collapse, commiserate and recaffeinate, Decolata is a thoroughly civilised and inviting little place. It's my other favourite Summer Hill haunt - really, all it comes down to is the Napoli (Decolata) versus the Belgian Chocolate cupcake (Muse).

"I have measured out my life with coffee spoons," says the eponymous J. Alfred of "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" fame (a poem by T.S. Eliot). I think I could too! This is Muse, one of my favourite haunts in Summer Hill, when I have the time. Taken on a typical Sydney afternoon when the swelter turns to storm.

"Do you always take pictures of your coffee?" asked my friend Ieng. I suppose I'm going to have to get used to such reactions when I whip out my camera in public over nothing more exciting than a cafe latte. Be that as it may, it was such a lovely temperate afternoon with a slanting summery light, and I was so elated at finding a coffee shop (Kawa) open after 4:30 on a Sunday - third time lucky! - that I couldn't resist. I took this at the point where the sugar goes -schloomp! down through the froth.

This funny little picture was taken at the surprisingly funky Jobel's cafe on Burwood Road on that eclectic strip of shops in Belmore. (There is also the "Crazy Fruit World" within sight... it's unclear, however, whether they only sell crazy fruit, or if Fruit World is in itself crazy...) My thanks to Tarsha and Angela for bearing with the idiosyncrasies of my snapping away while we enjoyed some rather good Campos coffees - I just couldn't resist the podlike organic beauty of the burnt orange lamps overhead.
